Concept:
The studio photographs are going to be used only for the front cover of the music magazine and for the regular items, such as posters. Therefore the images need to inspire confidence, especially as they are representing the magazine for a period of time. In order to attract the customers the models need to adapt to the look that make them stand out and emphasise that they want to be noticed and taken seriously for what they do.

Magazine Proposal Audience Feedback
Magazine Proposal
Audience Feedback
To prepare
for my music magazine I had to produce a proposal to explain the ideas of my
music magazine, I produced a Prezi which is done online and I included a few
ideas of how my music magazines front cover, content page and double page
spread (DPS) is going to look like and I also chose some fonts for my Masterhead.
My magazine proposal had all my basic ideas of how my music magazine would look
and what was going to be featured in the magazine. I have also asked for
feedback on surveymoney.com which will help me to make adjustments to my final
music magazine design.
Some of the
feedback I got was that my Masterhead was good however they suggested that I
should design a font to make it stand out a bit more, they also pointed out
that my colour scheme of black, red and white was a good choice because they do
stand out. One other point they mentioned was that I need to make sure that the
On Top of the Rest that is on top of the abbreviation of OTR needs to stand out
a bit more as it seems lost within the OTR.
The audience
also mentioned that my content page structure was good and it matched to
context of the magazine however they felt that the content was too plain and it
wasn’t detailed enough so therefore I need to consider changing the layout of
my content page, I need to consider adding more pictures in different locations
in order to show my photography skills and show that I have done enough
planning to make sure my magazine comes out the way I planned.
The double
page spread layout was good and the colour scheme matched the magazine and they
also thought that the OTR in the background would be a good idea as it is the
abbreviation of the magazines name. For example the colours of the letters will
be black and red (OTR)
to make the magazine look different from the other magazines.
Overall the
feedback was good but they mentioned a lot of things that need to be improved
or changed which helped me think of new ideas in terms of layout and what I’m
going to include in the magazine, It also gave me new ideas of where my
location is going to be, for my double page spread I thought of going to the
airport and taking a picture of my artist coming out of the airport which would
represent the fact that it is a new artist.
For my own personal feedback I could say that I
agree with what most of my peers said and I will take into consideration to
what they have said in order to improve my standard of the music magazine.

|
Genre
They place the magazines in terms of genre
E.g. films, music, soap, entertainment and education.
|
|
Main image
the main image stands out in all magazines which attract the customers. |
The
magazines on this newsstand all look similar in terms of colour and the
master-head, they are put in order of which ones people buy most and are most
popular and according to what they think people would enjoy reading most.
Personally I think they put the ones that stand out more and the colours that
will attract the customer, including the content of the magazine and the main
image of the magazine, however the newsstands are organised differently in
other shops, they are organized in terms of genre, e.g. music, film, soap,
entertainment, they do this so that it can be easier to find.
This
magazine newsstand is organised differently to the one shown above, this one is
also divided into sections which also makes it easier for people to choose
their preferred magazine. Organising the magazines in this way is good because
they make sure the ones that they put are eye catching for the audience, also
they make sure that the masterhead stands out so that it is visible for the
customers to see.

College Magazine Evaluation
Student Magazine Evaluation
For my preliminary task we had to produce a college magazine
which I found interesting and I enjoyed doing it because it gave me ideas on
how to do my final magazine which is a music magazine. It also helped me
practice Photoshop and InDesign more however I feel like I still need more
practice on InDesign as I find it quite confusing while using it.
I gathered some feedback from my peers and their feedback
really helped me, some of the feedback I got were positive as well as negative
which can help me improve my work in the future. A feedback I got was that the
front cover is eye catching and there isn’t too much writing, meaning it won’t
bore the reader, making them want to read more inside the magazine. I found
this as a positive feedback as I was aiming not to overload the front cover
with information because I find that it does bore the reader and it gives them
more information straight away without reading the magazine inside and I would
rather people read the magazine inside. A negative comment that I got is that
the content page was too plane and it should have had more pictures however the
colours did match which was positive.
Another positive feedback I received is that the colour of
the magazine is nice and its eye catching, which would influence teenagers to
read it as it is also based on education, they also said that the layout of the
magazine was good and it was laid out in a way that it look organised, this
comment made me realise that the way a magazine is laid out is very important
to the readers as it draws attention to the main content of the magazine. A
negative feedback I received was that if the min image was giving the audience
eye contact it might have drawn more attention to the readers because giving
readers eye contact makes the reader more engaged in the magazine.
All of the feedback I got from my peers was helpful as that
I could use some of the positive ones in the other magazines I produce in the
future and the negative feedback I could improve on to make my magazine look
more attractive. However they didn’t give me as much feedback on the content
page as I feel that the content page was less attractive because it was fairly
plane and the attention was mostly drawn to the front cover, which is a disadvantage
to my student magazine as they should equally be as attractive and eye
catching, this could be an improvement on future magazines.
During the process of making my college magazines the things
that went well was taking pictures and asking other people in the college which
would be the best image to use as a front cover of a college magazine, I asked
other people because the magazine is for them to read and they know what people
like to see on a front cover of a magazine. The main image of my magazine was
based in the library as I believed it was the best place in the college to show
that students go to the library and revise to achieve the highest grades
possible. Also the use of Photoshop went well, it was the first time that I was
using Photoshop and it was simple to use; however there are still improvements
that need to be made in using Photoshop. As my front cover had limited writing
I didn’t use the Photoshop techniques on that and this may outcome as a
disadvantage in the future because I may struggle with it.
I find it quite difficult to understand how InDesign works
and how to use it to make my magazine content page as good as my front cover
and this is why I think my content page isn’t as good as I had hoped it to be,
I planned my content page but when it came to doing it on InDesign it came out
totally different, so I think InDesign is my main let down in making magazines
and this is the area that I need most improvement on, however it wasn’t too bad
and it went well according to what I produced knowing that I find it difficult
to use.
What I need improving on? I need to improve the use of
InDesign and other elements of Photoshop, as I didn’t use all of its other
elements however with on-going practice it will become much easier and I find using
Photoshop easier than InDesign therefore my main focus is learning how to use
InDesign so that the work I produce is all at one level. Another think I need
improving on is my timing as I happen to fall behind without knowing it and
this affects the quality of work that I produce.
There are three main points for developing when producing
the main task which is to produce a music magazine. These points are that I
need to keep up in terms of timing, use my feedback as guidance to improve on
the magazines and also I need to make sure I know how to use InDesign as that
is where the content and double page spread will be produced, this is to make
sure that my work is done to the best of my ability and that my work looks the
same throughout.

College magazine planning
Planning
The front cover is outside the college where someone is
walking towards the college looking like a professional student. The magazine is going to include the colleges
pass rate and what facilities the college has and what the college is mostly
good at, I will also include a quote which represents the college.

Analysis of music magazines
From the first glance of this front cover it grabs my attention as there is a red, white and black colour scheme, these shows very strongly as the main image model is also representing the colour scheme by wearing black and red lipstick. This magazine has dark colours which show that it is not a pop magazine. Also Cheryl has gone for a more rebel pose to ensure she portrays the genre of this particular music magazine.
For this magazine the target audience is rock fans because
artists that are in this magazine such as ‘the white stripes’ are artists of
rock & roll, ages between teens and late 25’s. Q magazine is a mainstream
magazine.
